Making the switch to the blue brand, Emerson Reed will make his Top Kart debut at the opening round of the World Karting Association (WKA) Manufacturer’s Cup program in late December. Taking place on the grounds of the famed Daytona International Speedway, Reed will compete in both Yamaha and KPP classes as he looks to fight for victories and a great start to the 2013 racing season.
“I am excited to join Top Kart USA and can’t wait to get started,” explained Emerson Reed. “Obviously Top Kart is a very good brand and is the reigning Manufacturer’s Cup champion. I am looking forward to contributing wins in 2013 to help Top Kart repeat as Man Cup champs!”
“We are happy to have Emerson in the Top Kart family,” expressed Top Kart USA’s Bill McLaughlin. “Emerson has shown the speed to compete and we hope that the Top Kart brand and trackside support can give him the edge to win.”
2012 was another good regional season for Emerson, adding two more WKA GLSS championships to his resume, bringing that total to nine over the past three seasons. Claiming four victories, nine podiums and two pole positions in the WKA Great Lakes Sprint Series, the up and coming pilot secured championships in both the Yamaha Junior Lite and Yamaha Junior Heavy divisions. Coming to grips with the increased speed and bigger karts from previous years, Reed also went on to claim third and fifth respectively in the Komet Junior Lite and Komet Junior Heavy points battles.
Showing his true racing diversity, Reed went on to claim two pole positions and a main event victory in the WKA Gold Cup TaG Junior program and finished out the year on a high note with a second place result in the annual Robopong endurance event in the Yamaha Junior field.
After scoring 17 WKA Manufacturer’s Cup podiums in 2011, the 2012 WKA National campaign did not go as planned for Emerson, as consistent speed would not be followed by race results. Scoring a number of top-ten finishes and running inside the top-five during multiple event weekends, Reed was disappointed to not stand atop the podium.
Reed continued, “I was hoping that I would have had a more successful 2012 racing season but I am confident moving forward. It’s great to be a part of the Top Kart family and I’m excited to get back on track in Daytona.”
“The Top Kart USA crew is doing a great job in building a team and momentum heading into 2013,” explained Grand Products Mike Tetreault. “From myself and everyone at Grand Products and Top Kart, we welcome Emerson with open arms.”
With the start of the 2013 racing season right around the corner, Reed will once again have a jam packed schedule. With plans to compete in the WKA Manufacturer’s Cup, Great Lakes Sprint Series, Robopong and Superkarts! USA (SKUSA) Pro Tour events, including the SuperNationals, Reed will look to make his new team proud with race wins and championships throughout the season.
